Ordering Disorder
In this wide-ranging talk about the changing world of design, Khoi Vinh, design director of the industry-leading NYTimes.com and the popular blog Subtraction.com, traces the arc of his career from design practitioner to design blogger to design director and back again. Along the way, he uses his experience in publishing, art direction, and user experience as a lens through which to examine personal and universal truths he's learned about the concepts of order and disorder. Vinh will preview many of the concepts and some of the practical advice from his forthcoming book "Ordering Disorder: Grid Principles for Interaction Design," which examines in detail the subject of typographic grids, both as a tool for user experience design and as an historical trope for designers seeking to remake the world. Finally, Vinh will also touch on how the role of designers is changing, and some of the new challenges designers face as the future unfolds.
